It was more than 70 years since the invention of the first drone. Nikola Tesla's inventions, the Ruston Propctor Aerial Target and the Radioplane OQ-2, were among the first drones to be created. These unmanned aerial vehicles are still in use today, over fifty years after their creation. But who invented the first drone? How did they get from here to today? Here is a brief history of the drone.

Nikola Tesla invented it

Nikola Tesla invented a flying machine called the "Kettering Bug" nearly a century back. This unmanned aircraft vehicle, or UAV, was meant to be used in warfare, but it never saw actual action. The Kettering Bug was not completed in time for war and failed to perform well in testing. The Kettering Buggy had no remote control and was preprogrammed so that it could fly a certain distance before being deployed. Tesla's fear that the unmanned machine would be a threat was never fully accepted.

Ruston Proctor Aerial Goal

The radio guidance system was used to guide the first drone built. It was intended for military purposes. The RC technology created by Nikola Tesla inspired it. Despite its initial design, the RustonProctor Aerialtarget was never used for combat. Its development helped create other military drones, and led to the Kettering Bug being the first unmanned commercially-available aerial vehicle.

Radioplane OQ-2

The US military began creating unmanned aerial vehicles (or drones), in the 1930s. The first production-grade drone, the Radioplane OQ-2, was developed by Reginald Denny. These drones could be used for training anti-aircraft gunners, and other military personnel. Walter Righter sold the design to Denny and he began selling the RC model to hobbyists as "Dennymite". The RP-4, or Radioplane OQ-2 as it became known later, was developed into the Radioplane OQ-2. It was used to shoot down planes. The army bought 15 000 radio-controlled drones in World War II.

Karems Albatross

Karem, an Israeli aeronautical engineer, created the prototype of the Albatross drone. He was among the few Israeli engineers to create a drone. He moved to the United States in the 1970s. He built many prototypes, including the Amber drone. The drone became the Predator. His drone was so successful that he earned the nickname "Drone dad" General Atomics purchased his group and led systems. They worked together to develop ultra-long endurance UAVs. Thus, the Predator was created.


GNAT-750

GNAT-750 is an unmanned aerial vehicle that can be used to detect and track UAVs. This system was initially intended for export sales and was developed in the United States in late 1980s. GNAT-750 flew its first flight in 1989. The UAV was designed to hover at a low speed, making it impossible to be tracked by air defense RADAR.

Predator

The Predator was already on its route to Uzbekistan just one day after the Sept. 11. attacks. Clarke's recommendation was ignored by the Bush government, who however was slow to take action. Although President Clinton had not yet designated the Taliban terrorist organization, other government officials were concerned about geopolitical repercussions from targeting civilian targets. The Predator, an armed Predator, was quickly rushed to the air base near Afghanistan after 9/11. The first Hellfire missile was fired by a Predator.

What is a Battery Pack? How do I replace it?

A battery pack is the main power source for the motors of your drone. They provide enough power that your quadcopter can fly safely and smoothly.

Most likely, there won't be any noticeable difference in the batteries of a new drone. Your battery pack will gradually wear down over time. Eventually, it might stop working altogether. To make sure that your drone is still functioning properly, you will need to replace its battery.

It is best to replace a battery pack with the original part. A faulty battery pack could cause serious damage to your drone.

To replace a battery pack, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnecting the battery connector cable is a good idea. This ensures your drone doesn’t receive any electricity. To disconnect the battery connector cable, simply pull it away from the drone.
  2. Unscrew and remove the battery pack. Remove the battery pack from your quadcopter's bottom. The battery pack is usually split into two pieces.
  3. Locate the contacts of your battery. Look for the contacts after you've removed your battery pack. These small metal pins link the battery and the rest of your drone's components.
  4. Install the new battery. Next, install the new battery into the drone. Next, align the battery connectors at the two ends of the battery pack. Push the battery pack onto your drone. Once this is done, tighten your bolts to secure the battery pack.
  5. Reattach the battery connector cable. Connect the drone's battery connector cable once you have installed the new pack.
  6. Test the drone. Check that your drone still works properly before you fly it again. If it does, then congratulations!
